Contemplated in 1972, Jay "Sparky" Longley tested making sandals in his Laguna Beach garage. With $200, he bought a sewing machine and some rubber, setting his goal to create the best sandal. He officially began Rainbow Sandals, Inc. in 1974, and today the company produces 2 million pairs of sandals annually.

The company's philosophy has always been to make a quality product that will not end up as landfill, and that goal does not end when the sandals leave the store. Forty-eight years later, the Rainbow Sandals Factory Outlet is still located at 326 Calle de Los Molinos, San Clemente, CA. Soft, cushiony, and featuring a single-layer arch, the sandals have a polyester strap, box-toe construction, bonded nylon thread, triple-glued non-slip bottom, and the original woven logo from the brand. The sole material is rubber, and the outer material is leather, with a slip-on closure type.
